Graphene Oxide Enhanced Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

Graphene oxide (GO) thin films were coated onto Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell's polymer membrane using the Langmuir-Blodgett trough method; their effects on fuel cell performance are examined. Polarization curves were collected and a maximum performance enhancement of 81% in open-air condition was discovered. The improvement was initially attributed to the oxidizing effects of GO on carbon monoxide (CO). However, further experiments in pure-air environment reveal the CO oxidation hypothesis to be insufficient. We also investigated the durability of the fuel cell through stress test over a 5 hour period at 0.6A/cm^2, and a significant increase was also discovered.
