A balanced CO2 concentration plays a pivotal role in a planted freshwater aquarium, but regulating the concentration of CO2 precisely is tedious and difficult. This project investigates and quantifies the buffering affects of kH on CO2 acidification, which could provide a simpler alternative to direct CO2 regulation. An in-lab experiment was conducted with CO2 injection into water with varied kH values to measure the buffering effects of kH.The experimental results show that the buffering solution (increases kH) was unable to deny CO2 acidification. A set of criteria was created to identify a more effective buffering mechanism.
